Master Gichin Funakoshi introduced karate to Japan in 1922, founding the Shotokan style and teaching karate as a way of life—a path of discipline, respect, and self-development. Master Masatoshi Nakayama, his direct student, expanded Shotokan worldwide and helped shape modern karate training and competition. In 1977, Master Teruyuki Okazaki (10th Dan) established the International Shotokan Karate Federation (ISKF) to preserve traditional teachings and instructor standards. Master Yutaka Yaguchi (9th Dan) later played a key leadership role, guiding ISKF’s technical direction and mentoring generations of instructors
